A notable update has emerged regarding the excise policy case involving Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Delhi High Court will now be presided over by Justice Manoj Jain for this case. This change follows the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) challenge against the lower court's decision that acquitted Kejriwal and other defendants.
Previously, Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma was overseeing the proceedings. However, she recused herself after initiating criminal contempt proceedings against Kejriwal and several others related to separate incidents. Following her withdrawal, the case was reassigned and scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday, May 19. The CBI has contested the lower court's ruling that cleared Kejriwal and the other accused in the excise policy case, arguing that the acquittal was unwarranted and seeking its annulment in the High Court.
