Maharashtra Legislative Council Elections Scheduled for June 2023

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Monday, May 18, the upcoming elections for 16 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Voting is set to take place on June 18, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 22. The commission noted that the terms of members representing 16 local body constituencies in Maharashtra expired at various times between 2022 and 2025. However, the elections were delayed due to non-compliance with mandatory criteria related to local bodies and the unavailability of voters.


Election Schedule Details Election Timeline

According to the election schedule, the official notification for the elections will be issued on May 25, 2026. The last date for filing nominations is June 1, and the scrutiny of nomination papers will occur on June 2. Candidates will have until June 4 to withdraw their nominations. Voting for all 16 seats will occur on June 18, from 8 AM to 4 PM. The entire election process is expected to conclude by June 25.


The Election Commission has also stated that the model code of conduct has come into immediate effect following the announcement of the election schedule.
