OpenAI has introduced a new Personal Finance feature within ChatGPT. Simply put, you can now directly link your bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts to ChatGPT. Let's explore how this feature works, what information it can and cannot access, and how you can disable it if you change your mind. Additionally, we will tell you where this feature is currently available.

How will this new feature work?
Once you connect an account, ChatGPT presents you with a dashboard showing where your money is going—covering categories such as expenses, investments, active subscriptions, and upcoming payments. You can ask it questions you might typically avoid, such as: "Am I spending more than usual?" "Can I afford to buy a house in five years?" or "Which subscriptions am I still paying for that I’ve forgotten about?" By default, this chat operates on "GPT-5.5 Thinking," OpenAI's new reasoning model.

"Pro" users also gain access to "GPT-5.5 Pro," which OpenAI claims is better equipped to handle more complex financial queries. To enable this feature, simply open the "Finances" option located in the sidebar, or type "@Finances, connect my accounts" within any chat window.

What can this feature see (and what can't it)? How do you turn it off?
An interesting question arises: what exactly can—and cannot—this new ChatGPT feature access? This new feature can read your account balances, transaction history, investments, and liabilities. However, it cannot transfer funds, nor can it view your full account numbers.

If you decide to opt out, you can disconnect any linked account; the synchronized data will be deleted within 30 days. This feature arrives one month after OpenAI acquired the personal finance startup Hiro; the Hiro team helped build it, although the company did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. Support from Intuit is set to follow, which will enable users to estimate taxes on stock sales and assess their chances of credit card approval directly within ChatGPT.

Note: This feature is currently available in the US for Pro users who spend $200 (approximately ₹19,194) per month. Plus users will gain access to this feature later, and OpenAI states that it will soon be made available to everyone.
