AIADMK Internal Crisis EPS VS Velumani: After the assembly elections, the internal crisis in the AIADMK party in the state has deepened. The growing factional fight in the party has now spread to the district units of Tamil Nadu. This has created a tense situation at many places and the police had to intervene. There was a split in the party during the floor test of Chief Minister Vijay.

As a result, both the groups are tussling over control of the party. Due to this, many party offices have been locked and the police have taken them under security cover.
Police intervened
After similar incidents in Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Pudukottai and Karur, a fresh controversy has now erupted in Dindigul, where police intervened to prevent a clash between rival groups that came face to face over control of the district party unit.
The Dindigul controversy has brought two influential leaders and former ministers, Natham Vishwanathan and Dindigul Srinivasan, into direct conflict. These differences came to the fore when the EPS faction removed several district level officials who were believed to be associated with the rebel group.
Vishwanathan supporters asked for security
While on one hand Natham Viswanathan has supported the Velumani-Shanmugam camp, on the other hand Dindigul Srinivasan stands firmly with the EPS faction. Vishwanathan’s supporters demanded police protection to enter the district office. While Srinivasan’s supporters opposed it. After this, the police sealed the entry road and stopped both the groups from entering the premises to maintain law and order.
Srinivasan later held a meeting with his supporters and reiterated that the AIADMK General Council had unanimously voted against Edappadi K. Palaniswami has been accepted as the General Secretary of the party and the undisputed leader.

Decision taken in General Council meeting
Answering questions to rebel MLAs, Srinivasan said that a decision will be taken in the matter as per legal procedure. He also indicated that action is certain to be taken against the rebel MLAs. Meanwhile, the Velumani-Shanmugam faction has stepped up efforts to call an emergency General Council meeting to challenge the current leadership structure.
According to the information received, supporters of the rebel camp have started collecting signatures from General Council and Executive Committee members across the state. They claim to have already received the support of more than 1,000 members. On the other hand, the EPS faction in the state is adamant on demanding action against 25 rebel MLAs for violating the party whip during the trust vote in the Assembly.
