In a significant development for Indian Armwrestling, Delhi has been selected as the venue for the 47th World Armwrestling and 28th Para Armwrestling Championships in 2026. This prestigious event is set to occur from October 26 to November 7 at the Leela Ambience Convention Hotel. The championship is anticipated to attract over 2000 athletes from more than 75 countries, marking it as one of the largest international competitions in this sport, as per an official announcement.
Previously, the Leela Ambience Convention Hotel hosted the 2025 Asian Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championship, where India achieved remarkable success, securing 176 medals and finishing second in the continental rankings.

Assen Hadjitodorov, the President of the World Armwrestling Federation, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming event, stating, "I invite all the strongest competitors to join us in Delhi for the World Championships. We anticipate excellent organization and warm hospitality from our Indian hosts. Let's make this an unforgettable occasion together."
Preeti Jhangiani, President of the People's Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) and Vice President of the Asian Armwrestling Federation (AAF), remarked, "Hosting the World Armwrestling and Para Armwrestling Championships in India is a historic milestone for our sport and athletes. Following the success of the Asian Championship in 2025 at the same venue, we are confident that Delhi will provide a world-class experience for everyone involved."

Hosting the World Championships highlights the sport's growth in our country and the dedication of PAFI and Pro Panja League. The positive response during the Asian Championships demonstrated that India has the necessary infrastructure, enthusiasm, and audience to successfully host international armwrestling events.
