Gyanhigyan english | May 18, 2026 11:40 PM CST

Former MP Anand Mohan has launched a strong critique against the Janata Dal (United), asserting that the party has deviated from its ideological roots and is now dominated by wealth and influence. He specifically targeted former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that no one in the party has made greater sacrifices than his family. Anand Mohan recalled how he resigned from the cabinet at Kumar's behest, yet now feels sidelined despite his loyalty.

He further noted that while Nitish Kumar played a crucial role in establishing JD(U), his presence within the party has significantly diminished. Anand Mohan asserted that Kumar's political relevance has been completely buried, as evidenced by his absence from key events, including a recent oath-taking ceremony where he was present with 85 legislators but was not featured in any photographs. Questioning the party's leadership and visibility, he pointed out that previous campaign posters prominently featured Kumar alongside deputy chief ministers, whereas current banners lack the names of significant leaders like Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav.

He raised the question of why these leaders' names and faces are missing from the posters if they are indeed supportive. Anand Mohan clarified that he does not blame the Bharatiya Janata Party but instead criticized Kumar's close aides, accusing them of isolating the chief minister. He claimed that these advisors have metaphorically buried Kumar alive, questioning whether they only take him out for leisure and meals, and why they do not address his absence from public messaging.

On the issue of his son Chetan Anand not being included in the cabinet, he alleged that a culture of wealth-driven politics has taken root in JD(U). He stated that nowadays, it is not individuals but money that speaks, with cash-laden individuals being rewarded with ministerial positions. He criticized internal party decisions, referencing leaders like Sarfuddin, and questioned the treatment of loyal members. According to him, such practices are undermining not only JD(U) but also the broader NDA coalition. In a pointed remark, Anand Mohan labeled Kumar's close associates as a 'band of miscreants,' accusing them of weakening the party from within.

In response, JD(U) has countered Anand Mohan's claims. Party spokesperson Nihora Yadav stated that Anand Mohan has admitted he is no longer a party member. However, Yadav emphasized that Anand Mohan should not overlook Nitish Kumar's contributions to his political journey. Dismissing the allegations against the party, Yadav reminded that without Kumar, Anand Mohan might still be in prison. He concluded by asserting that attempts to weaken JD(U) through such statements would not succeed and suggested that Anand Mohan should acknowledge the political opportunities his family has received.
