Shooting Report at San Diego Islamic Center

Local authorities in San Diego are currently investigating reports of a potential shooting at the Islamic Center located on Eckstrom Avenue. The San Diego Police Department confirmed that officers are present at the scene following claims of an active shooter situation. In a social media post, the department stated, “SDPD is on scene at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the 7000 block of Eckstrom Ave for a reported active shooter.”


Officials have advised the public to steer clear of the area as the situation is ongoing. At this time, there are no further details regarding any injuries, suspects, or arrests. Police have indicated that more information will be provided as the investigation progresses.


San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria has acknowledged the police response, stating on X, "I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area. Please avoid the area and follow instructions from public safety officials. We will share updates as more information becomes available."


Additionally, California Governor Gavin Newsom's office released a statement on X, indicating that he has been briefed on the developing situation in the Clairemont area near the Islamic Center. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (@Cal_OES) is collaborating with local law enforcement. The statement expressed gratitude to the first responders on the scene and urged the public to adhere to guidance from local authorities.
