After the prices of petrol and diesel increased once again across the country, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath has targeted the BJP government. He said that fuel prices have been increased for the second time within a week, due to which there has been additional burden of inflation on the general public. Along with this, he has demanded from the state government to give relief of Rs 10 per liter by reducing the tax on petrol and diesel.
The Congress leader said that the price of petrol and diesel has been increased by 90 paise per liter from Tuesday. The government is citing international circumstances as the reason for this, but the real reason is the heavy taxes being imposed by the state government. He said that in Madhya Pradesh, compared to Uttar Pradesh, petrol is being sold costlier by Rs 13 per liter on an average and diesel by about Rs 4 per litre.
Kamal Nath said, “Petrol diesel prices in Madhya Pradesh are higher than other states.”
Kamal Nath has cornered the Madhya Pradesh government amid the continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel. He said that the government is trying to justify increasing the prices by citing the international market, whereas the biggest reason for expensive petrol and diesel in the state is the heavy taxes imposed by the state government. He said that the prices of petrol and diesel in Madhya Pradesh are much higher than the neighboring states.
The former CM said that the Madhya Pradesh government is charging 29 percent VAT, Rs 2.5 additional duty and 1 percent cess on petrol, while 19 percent VAT, Rs 1.5 additional duty and 1 percent cess is being charged on diesel. Kamal Nath said that the people of the state are paying more than Rs 30 tax on petrol and more than Rs 20 tax on diesel, which has no connection with the international market.
He said that after the new prices, petrol in Bhopal has become Rs 110.75 and diesel Rs 95.91 per litre. Petrol has reached Rs 110.79 per liter in Indore and Jabalpur, Rs 110.69 in Gwalior and Rs 111.27 per liter in Ujjain. Whereas the price of diesel has been recorded at Rs 96.40 per liter in Ujjain, Rs 95.97 in Indore, Rs 95.98 in Jabalpur and Rs 95.86 per liter in Gwalior.
Demand from the state government to reduce the price by Rs 10 per liter
Kamal Nath has demanded from the state government to provide relief by Rs 10 per liter by reducing the tax on petrol and diesel. He said, “I demand that the Madhya Pradesh government should immediately cut this tax so that the people of Madhya Pradesh do not have to buy the most expensive diesel and petrol. The Madhya Pradesh government should immediately reduce the prices of diesel petrol by Rs 10 per liter. By reducing the tax, not only will the people benefit but the government will also not suffer loss.” He said that due to diesel being expensive, trucks and heavy vehicles are finding it better to get fuel from other states. People of border districts are also buying petrol and diesel from neighboring states, due to which Madhya Pradesh is incurring revenue loss.
