Under this initiative, special emphasis will be placed on health, nutrition, biotechnology, genomics, medtech and emerging technology sectors. The collaboration will work to transform ideas developed in research institutions into practical social solutions. It will provide facilities like proof-of-concept development, prototyping, pilot deployment, IP support, commercialization and startup formation to researchers.
Under this partnership, Gates Foundation will support five Centers of Excellence under NIN over the next five years. Two of these centers will be started this year itself. These centers will help to put the research going on in the laboratories into practical use. Centers of Excellence have already been established in major institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, IISc and C-CAMP.
