A prominent remainer who is campaigning to see the United Kingdom rejoin the European Union has warned Brexiteers that the country is already "on the way back" to Brussels. Steve Bray, otherwise known as "Stop Brexit Steve", is a regular fixture in Westminster where he has been holding a standing protest to undo the Brexit referendum since it was held. He was often heard in TV news broadcasts shouting "stop Brexit!".
Speaking to the Daily Express outside of the "Brexit Unleashed" conference in Central London, the arch-remainer told Brexiteers that the UK had a "cracking deal" with Brussels and "threw it away". His words sparked fury with attendees, one of whom called the police to remove him from the curb, citing that the music he was playing was too loud.
Mr Bray called for the Brexit vote to be reversed - issuing the stark warning that "we are already on the way back in."
The UK has rejoined the European Space Program, he said, and "they are talking about the single market now - they weren't talking about the single market before."
He told the Daily Express: "Before you know it we will be back in, in all but name."
Brexiteers speaking inside the venue accused those of seeking to unpick the Brexit referendum as showing a "hostility to democracy".
Graham Stringer MP, Labour, also said that he felt Brexit must be upheld as the people "who make our laws should be accountable to the people who pay taxes" which he said was a "simple democratic statement".
This paper is campaigning for Whitehall to 'Give Us A Proper Brexit' and demanding the country withdraw from the ECHR, cut up EU red tape, and impose a 12-mile exclusion zone around the UK to protect our fishing industry.
But Mr Bray welcomed the idea of rejoining, suggesting that he would back plans by Wes Streeting, Andy Burnham and Sir Keir Starmer, to tighten relationships with Brussels.
He said: "There is a cost to all of this, it is going to cost us far more in the future for anything like we had.
"But business can trade, we had freedom of movement, which worked two ways, it was us as well, now we are limited to a 90-day...you know, it's ridiculous."
