Synopsis

The Delhi High Court has ruled against Reddy Pharmaceuticals. The court upheld a decision to remove 'Reddy' from the company's name. Reddy Pharmaceuticals is now barred from manufacturing, selling, or using the name 'Reddy' for its products. This is because the name is too similar to the well-known 'Dr. Reddy's' trademark.

Jaipur, May 19 (IANS) A court in Ajmer has ordered the registration of a case against Bharatiya Janata Party City President Ramesh Soni for allegedly reposting and sharing an objectionable social media post targeting the Delhi Chief Minister.
New Delhi: Upholding the Intellectual Property Appellate Board's decision directing the Trademarks Registry to remove 'Reddy' from the name of Reddy Pharmaceuticals, the Delhi High Court also restrained the Hyderabad-based firm from manufacturing, selling or using the name 'Reddy' for its products, ruling that it is similar to the 'Dr. Reddy's' trademark of Dr Reddy's Laboratories (DRL).

A division bench said that the adoption and use of the 'Reddy' trademark by Reddy Pharmaceuticals was tainted from the outset and cannot be saved by subsequent use or by claiming that it is a common surname.
