An individual attacked three police officers with a knife as they were responding to a report, a French official said. An incident happened on Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 6pm local time, in Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne), a commune in north-eastern France.
Chaumont public prosecutor, Denis Devallois, said police officers had been called to Avenue d'Alsace-Lorraine to a report of a disruptive individual throwing furniture out of a window. Upon arriving at the scene, the three officers were attacked with a knife, he added.
One officer was injured in the incident, while another fired a shot as the individual reportedly continued with their stabbing attempts, the official said. The officer was taken to hospital. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
More police officers were deployed to the area, Mr Devallois said, and an individual was apprehended and taken to hospital.
The individual's condition is believed to be non-life-threatening, local media reports.
The public prosecutor said police officers used a taser twice during the operation.
The incident prompted a large deployment of emergency services, with several emergency vehicles seen in the area.
A large section of a road was cordoned off as a result of the incident, pictures from the scene show.
An investigation into the incident has been launched.
