Jaipur, 19 May. There was a stormy rain of runs at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday night and a total of 445 runs were lost. But the biggest accolade was taken by teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who gave strong support to Rajasthan Royals (RR) with his explosive half-century of 93 runs (10 sixes, seven fours) in just 38 balls. The result was that the hosts boosted their playoff hopes with a thrilling seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with five balls to spare and moved themselves to fourth place in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) 2026 points table.
LSG had reached 220 runs due to the explosive fifties of Marsh and English.
Constrained to bat first, LSG, who were just four runs away from their second century in the current season, scored a huge score of 220 runs for five wickets with the stormy innings of opener Mitchell Marsh (96 runs, 57 balls, five sixes, 11 fours) and his opening partner Josh Inglis (60 runs, 29 balls, three sixes, seven fours).
Royals win due to big partnerships of Suryavanshi with Yashasvi and Jurel
But ‘Player of the Match’ Vaibhav proved to be much heavier than Marsh and Inglis. Suryavanshi, who was left seven runs short of his second century of the season, also got support from Yashasvi Jaiswal (43 runs, 23 balls, one six, eight fours) and Dhruv Jurel (53 not out, 38 balls, three sixes, three fours), who was captaining the team in the absence of fellow opener Riyan Parag. As a result, Rajasthan Royals achieved an impressive victory by scoring 225 runs for three wickets in 19.1 overs.
A win over Mumbai in the final match can seal the playoff ticket. RR
The thing to note is that Rajasthan won after three consecutive defeats and now with 14 points from its seventh win in 13 matches, it has gone behind the three other teams that have secured the playoff ticket – RCB (18 points), Gujarat Titans (16 points) and SRH (16 points). Rajasthan, which had defeated Lucknow by 40 runs in the first meeting too, now if it beats Mumbai Indians, another team that was out of the race in its last match, then its playoff spot will be confirmed, no matter what the results of the remaining matches are.
Laggard LSG’s ninth defeat in 13 matches
This was the ninth defeat in 13 matches for LSG, which was already out of the playoff race and is at 10th and last place in the table with only eight points. Rishabh Pant’s team will now play defending runners-up Punjab Kings in their 14th and final match. Punjab Kings, who have been facing defeat in the last six consecutive matches, will have to win that match to keep themselves in the race.
Raghuvanshi picks up pace after slow start
Well, when it comes to today’s match, 15 year old Vaibhav became the main center of attraction. Chasing a relatively difficult target, Suryavanshi got off to an unusually slow start and at one point was only 11 runs off 12 balls. After seeing his senior colleague Yashasvi dominate the powerplay (71 runs), Suryavanshi opened his hands for the first time in the ninth over and hit two sixes and three fours against left-arm pacer Akash Singh.
Vaibhav is now 6 steps away from Chris Gayle’s record of sixes (59) in a season.
After this Vaibhav hit a flurry of fours and sixes. By the time he was finally out in the 14th over, his total number of sixes in IPL 2026 had reached 53. Only Caribbean Chris Gayle (59) had hit more sixes in a single season of IPL in the year 2012, when Suryavanshi was just one year old.
After adding 75 runs with Yashasvi, Vaibhav along with Jurel scored 105 runs in 45 balls.
Yashasvi, who made a partnership of 75 runs in 39 balls for the first wicket with Vaibhav, became the victim of Akash Singh (1-54) right after the powerplay. After this, there was a stormy century partnership of 105 runs in just 45 balls between Vaibhav and Dhruv Jurel. During this, Vaibhav not only scored a century and his third fifty but also became the highest run-scorer in the current season with 579 runs in 13 matches. On the other hand, Jurel scored his second consecutive and fifth half-century in total.
While Mohsin Khan (1-31) returned Suryavanshi just short of his century, Luan Dre Pretorius (seven runs) also did not stay long. But Dhruv completed the formalities of victory with an unbroken partnership of 29 runs in 17 balls with Donovan Ferreira (16 not out, 10 balls, one six, one four). Donovan hit the winning six on the very first ball of Shahbaz Ahmed in the last over.
Marsh and English scored 109 runs in 50 balls for the first wicket.
Before this, Marsh and English gave a fast start to Lucknow and after scoring 83 runs in the powerplay, they made a partnership of 109 runs in 50 balls in the first wicket partnership. After scoring his second fifty of the season, English became the victim of Yashraj Punja (2-35) in the ninth over and there was a partnership of 42 runs in 24 balls between Nicholas Pooran (16 runs, 11 balls, two sixes) and Marsh. Puran was also returned by Punja.
Partnership of 64 runs on 42 balls between Marsh and Pant
Marsh, who scored 90+ (including a century) for the third time in the current season, now got the support of captain Rishabh Pant (35 runs, 23 balls, two sixes, two fours) and both of them scored 64 runs in 41 balls, taking the team to 215 runs. At present, three wickets fell in front of Joffra Archer (1-39) in the last over. In these, Pant was run out on the first ball, four runs before his second century of the season, Marsh was also run out on the fifth ball and Ayush Badani was bowled on the last ball. In this sequence, an unwanted record was registered in the name of Badani, who was out on zero for the fifth time for LSG. The previous record was in the name of Krunal Pandya (four zeros).
