Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has become the third-youngest manager in Premier League history to win the title after Arsenal were confirmed as champions following a 1–1 draw between Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday. This result ensured that the Gunners, led by Martin Odegaard, will finish top of the 2025/26 standings.
Arteta, aged 44 years and 54 days, ranks as the third-youngest manager to claim the Premier League title. Only Jose Mourinho was younger when he won the title, with Chelsea in 2004/05 at 42 years and 94 days and in 2005/06 at 43 years and 93 days, according to the Premier League website.
He has also become the youngest manager in Arsenal’s history to win the league title, surpassing George Graham, who was 124 days older when he led the club to success in the 1988/89 season, according to the Arsenal website.
Appointed in 2019, Arteta is the first former Arsenal captain to guide the team to a top-flight championship as manager. Additionally, he is only the second individual to both play in the Premier League and later win it as a manager, following Roberto Mancini, who played for Leicester City in 2001 and managed Manchester City to their first title in the 2011/12 season.
Arsenal have claimed the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years following the draw between Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The last title was secured in the 2003/04 season under manager Arsene Wenger and captain Patrick Vieira.
Led by Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s triumph follows three consecutive runner-up finishes, including the 2023/24 campaign when Manchester City edged them to the title by just two points.
This marks Arsenal’s fourth Premier League title, putting them two ahead of Liverpool and one behind Chelsea. Manchester United hold the record with 13 Premier League wins, and Manchester City have won eight. Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City are the other clubs to have won the trophy, each with one title.
Arsenal’s successful season has been characterized by goal-scoring contributions from across the squad. While Viktor Gyokeres leads with 14 goals, players such as Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Mikel Merino have contributed consistently throughout the season.
Assist numbers have also been shared widely, with Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Rice, Saka, Jurien Timber, and Gabriel Magalhaes each providing at least four assists.
