Work from home was first ordered. Meta workers in various countries, including the United States and Britain, were told not to come to the office for the time being. Work can be done from home. In the space of a few hours, the retrenchment mail reached 8,000 workers in the morning. Which is 10 percent of the total workforce of Meta.
According to a Bloomberg report, Meta’s total workforce was 78,000. At first they were told to work from home. Then by 4 PM (1.30 PM IST) layoff mails were sent to 8,000 workers. Which is sent from Singapore office. Meta sources report that thousands more workers are being transferred. On behalf of the company, Janelle Gale said, 7,000 employees will be redeployed to the new AI-based team. Close to 6,000 vacancies have been stopped completely.
“We’re at a point now where a lot of organizations are trying to work in a simpler structure. There will be smaller teams or groups that can work faster,” the company added. However, the employees had already received the indication that there would be a large part of the layoff. Because, the organization was emphasizing more on AI. The retrenchment list was also prepared earlier. It is believed that the mail has been sent with instructions to work from home so that there is no commotion in the office. Engineering and product teams are expected to suffer the most. More layoffs are expected by the end of the year. Note that Meta has previously stated that they plan to spend $125-145 billion this year, but most of that is on AI.
