Google Search is poised to undergo a major transformation in the coming days. During the annual developers’ conference, CEO Sundar Pichai shared details regarding the new features that will be introduced to the platform.
At Google I/O 2026, Sundar Pichai unveiled the new avatar of Google Search. During the annual developers’ conference, in addition to Google Search, Pichai announced several new products, including Gemini Spark AI. Furthermore, he offered a glimpse into future changes coming to Google Chrome, Gemini AI, and YouTube. At this event, the company also showcased its Android 17 operating system. This mobile OS is scheduled to launch in the second half of the year; it is currently in the beta testing phase.
Google Search Set for a Complete Overhaul
Google Search is one of the most widely used search engines in the world. Historically, it came pre-installed by default on every Android smartphone, and the majority of Android users continue to prefer Google Search. Last year, Google introduced an AI mode feature to the platform. Now, the company is preparing to give it a complete upgrade. Google Search will no longer merely display links to users; instead, it will offer an AI-powered, interactive experience.
During its annual conference, Google announced the introduction of new tools designed to gather information provided by users. Users will have the ability to create personalized “mini-apps” tailored to their specific needs. All in all, these new tools are set to completely transform the user experience of Google Search.
Introducing a New Search Box
Through its developers’ conference, Google revealed that users will soon have access to a new search box. This interface will be interactive, allowing users to submit queries and receive responses directly from AI agents. Consequently, users will no longer need to manually select different modes to perform these tasks; the system will handle everything automatically. As a result, users are likely to click on external links within Google Search less frequently, as AI agents will take on the role of directly delivering the requested information. This idea from Google is not new. Back in 2003, the tech company launched a service called Google Alerts, through which users received information from Google Search via email. Now, users will receive the information they query on Google Search through Gemini and Google Antigravity, in an interactive format. Users will be able to generate new queries based on the results displayed by Google. It will be just like chatting with customer care for assistance.
