In a commendable display of resilience, Aida Thimmaiah, just 12 years old, played through a sprained ankle to score a gritty one-over 66 on the second day of the IGU Maharashtra Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship held at the Willingdon Club on Wednesday. This performance brought her two-day total to an even-par 130, giving her a narrow one-shot lead over Yogya Bhalla, who matched her with a 66.
Janneya A Dasanniee, competing in the Ladies category, achieved an even-par 65, placing her third, three strokes behind the leader. Notably, Smira Bhambri delivered an impressive one-under 64 but found herself seven shots off the lead, tied for sixth.
Aida's Battle with Injury
Aida sustained an injury to her left ankle while heading to the 13th tee and managed to complete most of her round with the help of painkillers. Starting on the back nine, her putting was somewhat inconsistent, and her ball-striking did not meet her usual standards. Nevertheless, she persevered, scoring two birdies alongside three bogeys. Her birdies came on the third and ninth holes, while she faced setbacks on the second (three-putt), fourth, and 14th holes (missing a 15-foot putt).
Vidushi Singh Leads Category 'C'
In the Category 'C' (ages 11-12), Vidushi Singh from Uttar Pradesh took the lead with a score of five-over 70, totaling 16-over 146 over two days. Aashna Amogha from Karnataka fell to second place with a total of 19-over 149.
