Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari’s government has now launched a decisive attack on Bangladeshi infiltration, which has been a serious challenge to national security in West Bengal for decades. In fact, the state government has announced to start the process of deporting infiltrators by implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). This step is being considered a big and bold decision towards strengthening the border security of the state and curbing illegal immigration, which was awaited for a long time.
In this context, in an important announcement in Kolkata, Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari has announced to hand over 43 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for erecting security fencing in the India-Bangladesh border areas. This decision can prove to be a turning point for West Bengal which is facing the huge problem of infiltration. This will specifically cover the 27 km sensitive border area which was not yet fenced and which remained an easy route for infiltrators to enter Indian territory unhindered.
made a scathing attack on the previous government
Addressing a joint press conference, the Chief Minister official said that out of the 2,200 km long India-Bangladesh border, 1,600 km has already been fenced. He launched a scathing attack on the previous government, alleging that due to their apathy and alleged negligence, a significant stretch of about 550 km had remained open. Misusing this open space, Bangladeshi infiltrators have been entering the state on a large scale, which has not only posed a serious threat to national security but has also had a deep and adverse impact on the demography and social fabric of the state.
Infiltration a serious threat to national security: CM Shubhendu
Describing infiltration as a serious threat to national security, Subhendu Adhikari said that his government is committed to face this challenge with firmness and determination. He seriously accused the previous government of providing a kind of political and administrative security to the infiltrators, which encouraged illegal activities and maintained anarchy in the state. The Chief Minister said in clear words that this situation will not be tolerated any longer, and his government will ensure the safety of every citizen of the state.
Strict orders were also issued to the state police
In this regard, the Chief Minister has also issued strict orders to the state police. Police have been directed to immediately arrest any infiltrator and hand them over to the Border Security Force (BSF) without any delay. It will be ensured that BSF takes necessary legal action against these infiltrators and expedite the process of expelling them from the country. This step will be helpful in increasing the vigil on the border and also in dismantling the network of infiltrators from within the state, thereby strengthening the national security.
