Kolkata. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee and given one demerit point for misusing cricket equipment during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). During this match on Wednesday, Pandya had dropped the wicket pads in frustration. He was found to have breached level one of the code of conduct.
Mumbai Indians lost by four wickets in this match held at Eden Gardens. Pandya ‘had knocked down the wicket’s bails hard while going back to his run-up.’ “Hardik Pandya was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct which pertains to ‘misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fittings during a match’,” the IPL said in a statement.
It said, “The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the 10th over of the second innings of the match, when Hardik Pandya dropped the wicket bails while returning to his run-up. “In IPL, if four to seven demerit points are accumulated, there is a suspension of one match. Pandya accepted the violation and the punishment imposed by match referee Rajeev Seth.
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are already out of the race for a place in the IPL play-offs this year. This season of the team has been very bad and it has won only four matches so far. Now the team will play its last match of the season against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
