Manchester United have finalised the £62.5 million ($85 million) signing of Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, marking the completion of a move he has long considered a dream come true.

The 26-year-old attacker from Brazil has agreed to a five-year deal that runs until the summer of 2030, with an option to extend it by another year. Having supported the Red Devils since childhood, Cunha expressed great excitement about beginning his journey at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Cunha shared his emotions: “It is difficult to describe how I feel about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a little boy in Brazil watching Premier League matches at my grandmother’s house, United has always been my favourite English club. I dreamed of wearing the red jersey, and I am thankful to my family and everyone who helped me make this dream come true.

“I am looking forward to pre-season, meeting my new team-mates, and preparing for the upcoming campaign. My complete focus now is to work hard, contribute to the team, and help bring this club back to the top.”

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, expressed his satisfaction at securing Cunha’s signature: “Signing Matheus was one of our key priorities this summer, and we are thrilled to have completed the deal so early in the transfer window.

“He has already shown he can perform at the highest level in the Premier League, standing out as one of the most dynamic and effective forwards in England during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Before that, he proved himself in Spain and Germany as well. He possesses all the qualities we need as we work to build a strong, energetic, and entertaining team capable of competing for major honours.”

Cunha’s European career has seen him represent clubs such as Sion, RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, and Atletico Madrid. A gold medal winner at the 2020 Olympics, the forward joined Wolves in January 2023 and went on to score 33 goals in 92 appearances for the club.
