A new chapter in his life arrived at a tense moment for New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson , who chose to step away from social media while the franchise pushes deeper into the playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers . Hours before Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals , Robinson shared a personal message that quickly caught the attention of Knicks fans already riding the emotions of New York’s dramatic postseason run.

The timing was hard to ignore. Robinson has spent years being one of the Knicks’ emotional engines, bringing toughness, rebounding, and defensive energy whenever the game turns physical. Now, with New York chasing its first NBA Finals appearance in decades, the veteran big man appears determined to remove distractions and narrow his focus completely to basketball.

Mitchell Robinson’s message carried both frustration and clarity as he explained why he was stepping away online.

“Last post before I delete this app. I finally have changed my number for many reasons… as I fight through and keep fighting in this playoffs run 🤘🏾🤟🏾 my focus have to go to another level,” Robinson wrote before Game 2. “This is the start of a new chapter in my life 💚🔐 Love and will miss y’all…. Mitch out ✌🏾.”

For longtime Knicks followers, the announcement felt significant. Robinson has never hidden from public attention. Over the years, he openly discussed mental health struggles, frustrations about his offensive role, and even lighter moments involving his trucks and personal life. At times, that openness also created problems.

Earlier this postseason, Robinson and Dyson Daniels were fined following an altercation during the Knicks’ first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks. Robinson received a steeper $50,000 penalty after posting a vulgar Instagram story tied to the incident.

Inside the Knicks locker room, though, the focus remains on surviving a demanding series against Cleveland. Head coach Mike Brown believes his experienced roster understands the urgency after escaping with a wild Game 1 comeback.

“We have a veteran group,” Brown said. “I think our guys understand that we got away with one and we don’t want to put ourselves in that position again because Cleveland is a great team.”

Robinson’s impact in Game 1 reflected both his strengths and the difficult decisions New York may continue facing in this series.

In 14 minutes, he produced four points, six rebounds, and two steals while helping stabilize the Knicks defensively after a slow start. His activity around the rim gave New York the needed energy, especially during key stretches with the second unit.

Still, Cleveland exposed a familiar weakness.

Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson turned to the “Hack-a-Mitch” strategy during the third quarter, intentionally forcing Robinson to the free-throw line. The plan worked. Robinson converted only two of eight attempts, allowing Cleveland to maintain momentum.

“I wanted to give him a chance,” Brown said afterward. “Mitch has been great for us the last few games in that situation. We’re gonna continue to give him a chance.”

As New York stormed back from a 22-point fourth-quarter deficit in a stunning 115-104 overtime win, Robinson’s minutes disappeared late. The Knicks leaned into smaller lineups built for offense and spacing
