Goddess Lakshmi loves sweet things
There is a religious belief that Goddess Lakshmi loves sweet things very much. Therefore, on this day, Lakshmi Puja and Kumkumarchana are performed to get the blessings of Mother Goddess. It is said that eating sour things or sour food during puja is inauspicious. It is also believed that if women perform the puja while avoiding sour foods like tamarind, lemon, pickle, vinegar, orange, then the mother becomes happy soon.
From religious point of view, consumption of sour foods is considered an insult to Goddess Lakshmi. Due to this, positive energy does not enter the body. Fasting is also related to this. Scientifically fasting purifies the body. Religiously, fasting gives inclination towards God. Women worshiping Santoshi Mata are asked to avoid eating sour food.

By lighting a ghee lamp on Friday, offering sweets and not eating sour things, you get double the results of the puja. By this one gets the blessings of the mother and Goddess Lakshmi fulfills all the wishes. Women get the benefits of long marital life, early marriage, good health and divine influence.
