When will Bakrid be celebrated?

According to the Islamic calendar, the festival of Bakrid will be celebrated on the 10th day after the night the moon is visible in the month of Zilhijja. This time many people were hopeful that the moon would be visible on the night of May 17. Whereas instead of 17th May, the moon was visible on the night of 18th May. In the festival of Bakrid, first of all everyone from children to elders offer namaz, after which goat or any other animal is sacrificed.

The secret of the sacrifice tradition on the day of Bakrid

According to Islamic beliefs, once Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim wanted to sacrifice his most beloved thing to Allah. On the orders of Allah, he was ready to sacrifice his son. Seeing this, Allah was pleased with his dedication and saved his son’s life. Instead, Allah ordered the sacrifice of an animal. Since then the tradition of making sacrifice on the day of Bakrid started.

Sacrifice of goat in the festival of Bakrid is not just a ritual, but there are many deep meanings hidden in this tradition. Through Qurbani, people learn sacrifice, dedication and helping the needy. After sacrifice the meat is divided into three parts. The first part is kept for the family. The other part is given to relatives and friends. The third part is distributed among the poor and needy people. Similarly, this festival teaches people to celebrate happiness by sharing.
