Manchester United have officially announced that Michael Carrick will continue as the club’s permanent head coach on a new two-year contract.
Carrick, who made his return to Old Trafford in January to replace Ruben Amorim, initially took charge on a short-term basis until the end of the season.
After guiding the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the Premier League, securing impressive victories over Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea, and clinching qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, Carrick has now been rewarded with a deal that keeps him at the club until 2028.
Following confirmation of his appointment, Carrick addressed Manchester United fans, expressing his pride and determination to restore the club to the top of English and European football.
“From the moment I first arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the unique spirit of Manchester United,” Carrick said. “To be entrusted with leading this special football club fills me with immense pride.
“Over the past five months, the players have demonstrated the qualities of resilience, unity and determination that define our standards at Manchester United. Now, we must push forward together with ambition and clear purpose. This club and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours once again.”
Michael Carrick signed his official contract to continue as head coach at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Carrick’s impact, saying: “Michael has fully earned the right to continue leading our men’s team. During his time in charge, we have not only seen strong performances and results, but also a leadership style that reflects the values, traditions and history of this club.
“His achievement in guiding Manchester United back into the Champions League should not be underestimated. He has built a strong connection with the players and fostered a winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are determined to keep strengthening.”
