Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, whose contract is set to expire this summer, has reportedly informed club officials that he intends to leave at the end of the current season.

The 31-year-old Portuguese star’s potential exit has been anticipated for some time, but with his deal concluding this term, reports from TEAMtalk suggest his departure is now imminent.

Silva joined Manchester City nearly ten years ago from AS Monaco and has since established himself as one of the club’s most decorated players. During his time at the Etihad, he has helped City claim six Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups, and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy, which completed their historic Treble in the 2022/23 season.

According to CaughtOffside, Silva has now formally notified the club of his decision to leave, marking what is expected to be an emotional farewell for both the player and supporters.

The Portugal international is reportedly seeking a new challenge, with his representatives exploring several opportunities across different leagues.

TEAMtalk’s report mentions that Silva has attracted interest from clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS), Saudi Arabia, and several European sides. However, no single destination has yet emerged as the clear favourite for his signature.

In addition, the report suggests that fellow Treble winner Rodri could also be considering a move away, with Real Madrid believed to be a possible destination after the Spanish midfielder stated he would find it hard to reject an offer from the La Liga giants.

If both Silva and Rodri depart, it will leave a major void in Pep Guardiola’s squad — not only on the field but also in the dressing room. Silva, who has captained City this season, has been a key figure in maintaining the team’s cohesion and spirit.

TEAMtalk further claims that Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has emerged as a prime target for Manchester City, with a reported price tag of £100 million. Sandro Tonali, who would also command a significant transfer fee, remains another option under consideration.

With questions surrounding Guardiola’s long-term future and several possible high-profile exits, the upcoming summer promises to be a crucial and potentially turbulent period for the reigning champions.

In its analysis, FourFourTwo notes that while Silva’s departure will undoubtedly be emotional, it may also come at an appropriate time. The publication observes that City have shown signs of fatigue over the last 18 months, suggesting that a rebuild has perhaps been delayed longer than ideal.

Despite the challenge of parting ways with players who have defined an era for the club, the report concludes that initiating a new cycle — beginning with Silva’s exit — could provide the fresh impetus City need moving forward.

According to Transfermarkt, Bernardo Silva’s current market value stands at €27 million.
