Manchester United’s on-loan goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined fellow United players Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Jadon Sancho in lifting silverware while away from Old Trafford this season.

The Cameroon international featured between the posts for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final against Konyaspor, where he played a key role in helping his side secure the trophy.

Onana had a relatively quiet first half as Trabzonspor took an early lead. However, the second half saw him tested more frequently. Early on, he managed to push a shot onto the post, but the rebound fell kindly to Jackson Muleka, who turned and slotted the ball into the bottom corner, leaving Onana with no chance.

The United loanee then faced a penalty, but Konyaspor’s attempt struck the crossbar to his relief. Onana reacted quickly to make an important point-blank save from the follow-up, keeping the scores level.

As the game entered its final stages, Onana produced another crucial save from a long-range effort to preserve Trabzonspor’s advantage. In the dying seconds, the team had a close escape when a header from a free kick brushed the outside of the post with Onana beaten.

The win marked Trabzonspor’s 10th Turkish Cup triumph and their first since 2020, a significant moment for both the club and their on-loan goalkeeper.

Match Statistics

Onana registered three saves in the final, two of which came from inside the penalty box. He also made two successful high claims to relieve pressure on his defence. The keeper won 100% of his aerial duels but recorded a low passing accuracy of 40%, as all of his distributions were long passes on the day.

Future Prospects

Despite his strong performances in Turkey, Onana’s long-term future at Manchester United remains uncertain. The club is reportedly pleased with the progress of Senne Lammens, making a permanent return for Onana this summer unlikely.

Trabzonspor’s president has expressed a desire to bring Onana back on loan next season, though it remains to be seen whether United would prefer another temporary move or seek a permanent transfer instead.
