Rivoi News, May 23, 2026 – Cockroach Janata Party’s joke is a warning of digital war in India, says retired Lt. Colonel Tyagaraj has told. He says that the viral joke of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ is not just an ordinary phenomenon of social media. It is a serious warning sign over digital influence, organized efforts to foment political subversion, foreign encouragement and targeted efforts to undermine constitutional institutions.

Lieutenant Colonel Thyagarajane Through a detailed article on a news portal named The Commune, Cockroach has tried to alert the country about the reasons behind the nationwide yoke suddenly raised in the name of Janata Party and the future possibilities arising due to it.

Colonel Tyagarajan says that India is facing a new type of national security challenge today. The challenge does not always come through borders, weapons, armed forces or traditional espionage. It is now visible through mobile screens, anonymous handles, meme pages, satirical accounts, influencer networks and digital campaigns driven by political motives. These ecosystems don’t just spread opinions; Under certain planned circumstances, they can create artificial anger, undermine public confidence, distort the legitimacy of institutions, and create an atmosphere of widespread public rebellion.

Rise of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’

This former army officer says that the recent rise of the so-called ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ founded by Abhijit Dipke cannot be dismissed as a normal incident of online joke or political fun. It should be examined as a serious case study of the direction of organized political disruption in the digital age, where sarcasm, outrage, criticism of institutions, and algorithm-based propaganda can quickly turn into a massive public-influence operation.

He says that any democracy should not be afraid of criticism. Citizens have every right to question governments, institutions and public authorities. But the line of distinction between criticism of democracy and hostile information warfare (information operation) has to be clearly understood. When a nascent digital handle grows at extraordinary speed, targets constitutional authority, turns judicial clarity into a weapon of mass outrage, and has claims of foreign support and political connections behind it, it becomes the subject of serious investigation at the state level.

Association with AAP and questions on political backing

The second issue is his political connections. Abhijit Dipke, known as the founder of Cockroach Janata Party, has earlier been revealed to be associated with the ecosystem of Aadmi Party (AAP) and old posts to AAP leader Manish Sisodia have also surfaced online.

concern about foreign incentives

The third major concern is regarding the claim of foreign amplification. Social media posts allege that the handle’s audience is mostly non-Indian, with Pakistan accounting for 49%, America 14%, Bangladesh 14% and India only 9%. If this is true, then it raises serious questions about foreign interference in Indian political discourse and demands immediate technical investigation by digital platforms and agencies.

In this context, the Colonel advises, the Government of India and relevant investigative agencies should obtain detailed information from digital platforms, including the location of administrators, login history, geographical location of viewers, ad spend records, sudden spikes in followers, bot-like patterns, aggregated sharing networks, paid influencer activity and cross-platform promotion. Without such technical verification, the truth will remain hidden between two poles: on the one hand, those who call everything propaganda, and on the other, those who call every investigation censorship.

Why India cannot ignore digital influence operations

The fourth issue is the broader geopolitical pattern. Around the world, foreign information manipulation and interference are now considered threats to democratic institutions. The international organization IDEA has noted that foreign information manipulation can take advantage of local vulnerabilities and polarization, while research on information warfare has repeatedly shown that social media platforms allow such influence campaigns to be conducted at scale and very quickly.

Freedom of expression cannot become a weapon to bring instability

This does not mean that dissent or opposition should be suppressed. A mature republic must tolerate criticism. But he should not tolerate such secret manipulation. Freedom of speech cannot become a shield for organized foreign interference. Sarcasm cannot become an excuse for insulting these institutions. Political activism cannot be a path to foreign-backed instability. And digital platforms cannot be allowed to serve as uncontrolled theaters of psychological operations (mental warfare).

Therefore, a systematic investigation is necessary. It should not be inspired by any emotion, party loyalty or public anger. It should be procedural, evidence based and legally strong.

Hall for investigation

As a retired military officer and cyber security expert, Colonel Tyagaraja has the following recommendations:

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and relevant cyber agencies should conduct a preliminary technical assessment of the digital behavior of this account.

Platforms like Meta and

If organized instigation of foreign origin is found, then these cases should be handed over to national security agencies.

If any funding links, political guidelines or paid propaganda networks are found, they should be investigated under applicable laws.

If derogatory or defamatory material targeting the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice crosses legal limits, appropriate legal action should be initiated.

The former army officer has also suggested what countermeasures should be taken in this situation: In his opinion,

Creating a National Digital Influence Cell: To monitor foreign propaganda, bots, propaganda networks and attacks on constitutional institutions.

Demand platform transparency: Social media platforms must share data on admin location, audience geography, ad spend, follower growth, and aggregated activity.

Investigating toolkits and foreign links: Investigating political backing, proxy funding, paid promotion, foreign involvement and integrated digital operations.

Protecting constitutional institutions: Allowing legitimate criticism, but taking strong action against willful misconduct by the Supreme Court, the CJI, the armed forces and the Election Commission.

Rapidly countering the narrative: Launching rapid clarifications, fact checks and public awareness campaigns before false propaganda damages national confidence.

Finally he says that this incident of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ should be seen as a red flag. There could be some political planning or foreign encouragement behind this incident. Only investigation can establish the truth. But ignoring this would be considered irresponsible.
