Borussia Dortmund have reportedly experienced a significant setback in their transfer plans, losing out on a player considered one of their prime summer targets.
The Bundesliga side had already reached an agreement in principle with a highly rated youngster but have now missed out on sealing the deal. Here’s the latest around BVB’s transfer developments and club updates.
In a notable twist, Liverpool are said to have overtaken Dortmund in the race to sign 17-year-old forward Samuel Martinez. Despite BVB having a preliminary agreement in place, reports from Sky and AS suggest that the Colombian talent will instead be heading to the Premier League club for just under €1 million.
Sources indicate that Dortmund were unable to satisfy certain transfer conditions laid out by the player’s camp, though the issue reportedly had more to do with contractual terms than the transfer fee itself. Sky further adds that Martinez had been identified as one of Dortmund’s top priorities for the next transfer window.
The move is not yet fully completed, as Martinez must still undergo a medical examination in England. His current club, Atlético Nacional of Colombia, will also be entitled to a share of any future transfer revenue as part of the deal.
However, Martinez will only officially join Liverpool once he turns 18 on 5 April 2027, meaning the transfer will be formalised after the conclusion of the next season.
Meanwhile, another piece of BVB-related news comes from Denmark, where former Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko has become a hero for FC Copenhagen. Despite the club enduring a tough season, the 21-year-old delivered an outstanding performance by scoring twice in extra time against Brøndby, securing a place in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.
The double strike provided a morale boost for both the player and the club after a challenging campaign that saw Moukoko lose his spot in the starting lineup, while Copenhagen — typically dominant in Denmark — found themselves in the relegation play-offs. His six goals in six matches helped the team avoid further trouble and end the season on a positive note.
Now, FC Copenhagen can look forward to participating in European competition again, having featured in the Champions League last season — where they faced none other than Moukoko’s former side, Borussia Dortmund.
Moukoko’s resurgence comes after an underwhelming loan spell at OGC Nice. Following his permanent move last summer for €5 million, the young striker has begun to repay Copenhagen’s faith with decisive performances.
In other BVB updates, reports suggest that the club has decided to simplify its kit design for the coming season. As per Ruhr Nachrichten, the away jersey unveiled this summer will adopt a minimalist all-black look. Additionally, Dortmund are not planning to release any special-edition shirts this year. It remains uncertain whether a separate kit will be introduced for the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League campaigns.
Upcoming fixtures for Borussia Dortmund will see the team continue preparations for the next season’s challenges both domestically and in Europe.
