There’s something that’s been bothering me a lot.

Three days ago, the polio team came to our house and I took my 9-month-old baby for polio drops. Then the next day, two girls from their team came and said, “Give us cold water and a glass,” so I thought it’s very hot outside and gave them a water bottle with a glass. She said, “We’ll return it, our team is standing there.” After some time, she gave it back.

The next day, both of those girls came again and asked for water. I gave it again, but at the same time my husband came back after dropping the kids and he saw those girls and the bottle. He got a bit angry at me and said I shouldn’t open the door for them every day. We don’t know who they are, and we can’t understand the situation. It’s better not to open the door when I’m not home. I said okay. He was also right from his point of view, but I just gave it because of the extreme heat.

Then yesterday they came again and rang the bell. I asked who it was, and she said, “Give us water.” I didn’t know how to say no, so I just didn’t respond and went inside. I thought she would understand and leave, and I felt guilty but also a bit relieved thinking she wouldn’t come again. But after almost two hours she rang the bell again and asked for water. I just said, “Sorry, there isn’t any.” She said, “No water?” I came inside and honestly this time I also got angry. I mean, they should understand that if you’ve already been given water twice in a day or on different days, you shouldn’t keep coming daily. Why don’t they carry their own water bottles?

And today she came again, and my house helper was here, so I told her to check. I said if it’s the polio worker, tell her there’s no water. The helper said she said, “Have guests not come?”

I mean what is this? You are coming daily, we’ve already given the polio drops to the child, and it’s making others feel uncomfortable too when you keep asking for water in this heat. People should understand as well. Please give your advice.Thanks.

Solutions; Have mercy

Listen to your husband. A polio team does not visit the same street three times in a row… and nobody asks who has guests at home unless they have some hidden motive. They are probably scouting your place. Be careful, and tell them that your father-in-law is an SHO and will be here any moment if they ring your doorbell again.

Polio teams do not stay in the same street for long. They are required to cover their assigned area within a set timeframe. I suspect these are not actual polio workers, but people with wrong intentions in disguise.

When she asked your maid, “Aren’t there any guests at home?”, it suggests only one thing—that they may be trying to keep track of how many people live in and leave that house every day.

Maybe they intended something suspicious or something else. Allah (SWT) knows best.

Besides, your house is not the only one in the society—there are obviously many houses there. So why always your door?

Allah (SWT) has protected you, and may He continue to protect you and your loved ones.

When you are alone at home, never open the door to anyone you are not familiar with.

And when your husband is at home, you don’t need to answer the door unless it is an emergency.
