Mohamed Salah is reportedly holding discussions with a European club, and the Liverpool forward’s next move appears to be taking shape.
The Egyptian international is said to be negotiating with a European side to continue his illustrious career, with reports suggesting he wants to steer clear of the ‘Saudi option’.
While Salah’s potential next club seems likely to be based in Europe, the discussions have temporarily stalled due to what has been described as an ‘ongoing election atmosphere’.
The 33-year-old winger, who has netted 12 goals and provided nine assists in 38 appearances for Liverpool this season, is also believed to be seeking a lucrative salary package.
According to Turkish outlet A Spor, Salah and his representatives held talks with Turkish giants Fenerbahce during Ramadan, with two meetings reportedly taking place.
During these meetings, Salah is said to have met with Fenerbahce’s Head of Football, Ertan Torunogullari, where he demanded an annual salary of €20 million for his services.
Salah’s representative outlined the player’s current priorities, allegedly stating, “We are not considering the [Saudi] Arabia option right now; it could be Europe.”
Negotiations with the Turkish club have been put on pause due to the ‘election atmosphere’ within the club, following their recent 3-0 defeat to rivals Galatasaray in last weekend’s derby.
The loss has thrown Fenerbahce into a period of internal unrest, with manager Domenico Tedesco being dismissed and club president Sadettin Saran announcing early presidential elections, while confirming he will not stand for re-election.
Because of this uncertain situation, the talks with Salah could either collapse altogether or resume under new leadership, potentially making him the first marquee signing of a new administration at the club.
Reports indicate that Salah may announce his next club in the coming days. The Liverpool star has scored two goals in his last three Premier League outings but played less than an hour in his most recent appearance, exiting the pitch with a hamstring issue.
Although some fans feared he might miss the rest of the season, Liverpool confirmed through an official statement that the injury is minor, and Salah is expected to return soon to Premier League action.
Importantly, sources close to the Egyptian suggest that his preference is to remain in Europe as he looks ahead to preparing for the 2026 World Cup, further explaining his reluctance to consider a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Liverpool are set to resume their Premier League campaign this weekend with a high-stakes clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, as both clubs continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
