Manchester United have reached a decision regarding their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yann Diomande, while the player himself is reportedly weighing offers from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Michael Carrick was officially appointed as Manchester United’s permanent manager on Friday, signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2028. Under Carrick’s leadership, the Red Devils secured a third-place Premier League finish this season and, crucially, qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League — a boost that will strengthen their summer transfer funds.
United are targeting a winger in the upcoming transfer window, along with at least two midfielders and a left-back, as part of their key recruitment priorities. Among the most sought-after names this summer is RB Leipzig’s 19-year-old sensation Yann Diomande, who impressed with 12 goals and eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances this season.
His breakout campaign has drawn attention from several top European clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain. However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that while United remain admirers of Diomande, they have chosen not to submit an offer as long as Leipzig’s €100 million (£86 million) valuation stands.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “The winger position is Liverpool’s absolute focus. They are determined to make a significant signing in that area, and Yann Diomande’s name remains firmly on their list. Liverpool are in active discussions with Roc Nation Sport, the agency representing Diomande.”
He continued: “It’s not only Liverpool involved — Paris Saint-Germain are also holding talks. Manchester United are monitoring the player but have already informed people close to him that they will not pay €100 million. Tottenham attempted to sign him earlier, but that deal was never going to happen, even back in 2025. Both Liverpool and PSG are in conversations with Diomande, and now the player must decide whether his next move will be to Anfield or the Parc des Princes. Ultimately, the direction of this transfer will depend on his choice.”
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Diomande has become a ‘leading target’ for Liverpool as the club aims to strengthen its attacking options with a couple of new wingers. Ornstein noted, “Liverpool have manoeuvred themselves into a strong position with the player, and if the circumstances become favourable, negotiations between the clubs are expected to follow.”
When asked earlier this week whether he would remain at RB Leipzig next season, Diomande simply replied, “Yes.” Addressing ongoing speculation about his future, he added, “I’m not thinking about that right now. I’m at Leipzig and I enjoy playing here. In the end, it’s always the statistics that count. It’s been a fantastic year for me.”
