According to the weather bulletin released on Saturday, on May 22, the maximum temperature was recorded above normal in many districts, while on May 23, the minimum temperature in some areas including Chhindwara was also above normal, due to which the nights also remained hot.
The Meteorological Department has issued red, orange and yellow alerts for many districts till May 27. There is a possibility of severe heat wave at different places in Satna, Panna, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh between May 23 and 24. Apart from this, severe heat wave warning has also been issued in Datia, Bhind, Rewa, Mauganj, Katni, Damoh, Niwari and Maihar.
There is a possibility of heat wave in Sagar district, while hot nights are expected in Chhindwara, Balaghat and Pandhurna. Heat wave alert has been issued in many districts including Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Ratlam, Ujjain, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Jabalpur and Narsinghpur.
During May 24 to 25, severe heat wave conditions are likely to persist in Satna, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Datia, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Umaria, Katni, Damoh, Sagar, Niwari and Maihar. After this, the same situation may persist from 25th to 27th May.
The Meteorological Department said that the South-West Monsoon has advanced into parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea and the conditions are favorable for its further advance in the coming days. A Western Disturbance is active around Jammu and Kashmir and from May 28, a new Western Disturbance may affect North-West India.
To protect against heat wave, the Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid leaving their homes between 12 noon and 3 pm. It has been advised to drink adequate amount of water, ORS, lemon water, buttermilk and other homemade electrolyte-rich beverages. People have been asked to wear light colored loose cotton clothes and go out with their heads covered.
Children, elderly and already ill people have been advised to take special precautions. Farmers have been advised to maintain soil moisture by irrigating in the morning or evening, avoid using fertilizers and pesticides in extreme heat and arrange adequate water and shade for animals.
