The extreme heat and temperatures around 45 degrees in the months of May and June not only irritate humans but also badly affect our vehicles. In this season, there are often reports of tires suddenly bursting while moving on the highway, due to which families playing happily become victims of major accidents. If you are also planning to go on a long trip or expressway journey this summer, then this information is very important for the safety of you and your family.

Zee News According to , understanding the condition of tires before starting the journey and following the correct rules to keep them cool can avoid any major accident.

Why do tires explode in summer?

When the outside temperature crosses 42 to 45 degrees Celsius, the temperature of asphalt roads increases even more. When a vehicle runs continuously at high speed on such hot roads, the friction between the road and the rubber (Friction) due to which the temperature inside the tire increases very rapidly.

  • Spread of air: Excessive heat causes the air inside the tire to expand, causing the internal air pressure to reach dangerous levels.

  • Weakening of rubber: Due to heat, tire rubber also starts losing its strength. If the tire is already worn or old, it cannot withstand the internal pressure and suddenly explodes.

Main causes of tire burst: common mistakes

Many times, minor carelessness or misconceptions of drivers also become the cause of these accidents:

type of reason impact on vehicle Why is it dangerous?
Over-inflation Due to heat the air expands more. The pressure inside the tire goes beyond tolerance.
Under-inflation The lower part of the tire rubs more against the road. Due to increased friction the tire heats up very quickly.
overloading (overweight) Overloading luggage in trunk and cabin. Additional pressure and heat is generated on the tires.
constant high speed Driving the car on the highway without stopping. The tires don’t get a chance to cool down at all.

Additionally, people in India are often reluctant to replace tires even after they are completely worn out or 5-6 years old. Fine cracks or slight bulges on the sidewalls of worn rubber are a strong indicator that your tire may be betraying you at any time.

Strong and safe formula to keep tires cool

To avoid any untoward incident during the journey, follow these strict rules suggested by experts:

  • Maintain correct air pressure: Always fill air according to the prescribed parameters specified by the car manufacturer. The correct pressure information is written near the door pillar or fuel cap of your vehicle. Always check tire pressure “cold” (when the vehicle is parked) every two weeks during summer and before setting out on any long journey.

  • Timely Wheel Alignment: If the alignment of the vehicle is bad, the tires start wearing more on one side. This weak part is the first to explode in extreme heat.

Strict warning: If you are going on a long drive in the afternoon, then stop the car after every 100 to 150 kilometers and take a break. This reduces the heat of the tyres. Remember, never pour cold water directly on an overheated tyre, because a sudden change in temperature can cause the rubber to crack instantly and the tire can get completely damaged.

Check your tires closely just before leaving on a long trip. If any nail, pebble or even a small cut is visible in it, get it repaired immediately, because in the summer season, these small cuts become the cause of a big accident.
