Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a huge and historic step to keep the people of the state safe from natural disasters. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued strict instructions to make the weather early warning system more strong, hi-tech and effective.
The main goal of the government is that accurate information about dangerous natural phenomena like storm, storm, heavy rain and lightning can be delivered to every corner and village of the state in time. This will not only save precious lives of people, but will also completely prevent huge loss of life and property.
Now accurate news of storm and water will reach directly to your village and home.
This time the Yogi government is laying special emphasis on ‘last mile connectivity’ i.e. direct connectivity to remote rural areas. Under this new plan, IVRS, loudspeakers installed in Gram Panchayats, local FM radio, emergency alerts coming directly on mobile and social media will be used on a large scale in villages and disaster-sensitive areas. The government is making every effort to ensure that every small, big and important information to the weather reaches the general public directly without any delay, so that they can protect themselves and their cattle in time.
Government learned a big lesson from the severe storm of May 13
The recent devastating storm that hit Uttar Pradesh on May 13, 2026 was reviewed in detail during a high-level meeting. During this disaster, very strong and destructive winds blew in many districts of UP. However, the modern early warning system of the Meteorological Department had issued Yellow, Orange and Red alerts in time, giving the local administration full opportunity to prepare for relief and rescue. The government has accepted that this time it was very successful in reducing the loss to a great extent due to the issuance of accurate alerts at the right time.
Moment to moment monitoring through ‘Sachet’ platform and SMS
‘Nowcast’ i.e. immediate weather alerts are being issued in many districts of the state regarding suddenly changing weather and strong winds. For this, the government’s special ‘Sachet’ platform is being used, through which information is immediately transferred to the district administration, disaster management team (NDRF/SDRF) and local authorities. Along with this, to make the general public aware, people are being immediately alerted through the network of village heads, accountants and Anganwadi workers deployed on the ground including mobile SMS, TV, radio, WhatsApp groups.
Weather will be under siege with modern technology of space and radar
The world’s most modern technologies have now started being used to gauge weather patterns in Uttar Pradesh. The sky is being closely monitored round the clock in the state through Doppler Weather Radar, Automatic Weather Station, Rain Gauge, Lightning Sensor (sensor that detects lightning) and live satellite images. Till now hundreds of automatic weather stations and thousands of modern rain gauges have been installed in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, new and very powerful Doppler radars are also being installed rapidly in many big cities.
A mega-awareness campaign will be conducted by setting up Chaupals in the villages.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given clear instructions to the officials that it is not enough to merely issue a warning, but along with it people should also be told how to stay safe during disaster. For this, special awareness campaigns will be run in schools, gram panchayats and rural chaupals so that children and villagers can take right decisions at the time of disaster. Along with this, instructions have been given to identify weak trees, dilapidated electric poles and old buildings that fall during storms and repair or remove them in advance so that no major accident occurs.
Self-help groups and disaster friends will take command
To further strengthen this entire system in rural areas, the government is giving special training to women of self-help groups and local ‘Aapda Mitras’. These people will work to increase awareness at the rural level and help in times of crisis. To deal with emergency situations, life jackets, boats and other necessary rescue resources have already been made available in sufficient quantity by the administration in many flood and disaster affected districts.
