New Delhi: As many as 97 countries of the world’s top 100 hottest cities were in India on Friday afternoon. With extreme heatwave tightening its grip in several parts of the country, temperatures in various parts of India reached above 45 degrees Celsius by this noon.

As per AQI.in, the top 100 hottest cities worldwide were dominated by India at 2:50 IST. Among Indian cities, Balangir in Odisha reported the hottest city with 48°C. Sasaram in Bihar followed next with 48°C. It was followed by Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh at 47°C.

Apart from 97 Indian cities, three cities included in list of 100 cities were from Nepal. These cities are Dhangadhi (23), Nepalgunj (34), and Lumbini Sanskritik (76). The temperatures in these cities ranged between 45°C and 46°C.

Among the other Indian cities that were in the top 100 included Muzaffarnagar (26), Ayodhya (32) , Patiala (42), Warangal (55), and Haridwar (56). Apart from these, Sri Ganganagar (62), Gwalior (64), Dhanbad (71), Chandigarh (77), Bharatpur (97) C, and Singrauli (100) were also in the list.

Meanwhile, as per the IMD, heatwave is likely to continue over the plains of northwest India, Central and East India, and parts of Peninsular India in the next few days. As per the department, the heatwave conditions are likely to be in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh from May 22 to May 28.”Severe heatwave conditions over East Uttar Pradesh and East Madhya Pradesh are expected during the same period,” the IMD said as per PTI.

The weather department added, “”Heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated/some pockets over Rajasthan during May 22-28, with severe heatwave conditions likely in isolated/some pockets over West Rajasthan during May 24-28.”
