Three persons, including two children, were killed and two others sustained serious injuries after a speeding trailer truck rammed into a motorcycle in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district on Sunday, police officials said.

The accident occurred on a highway stretch under the jurisdiction of Rajnagar police station when the victims were travelling on a motorcycle and were reportedly hit by a heavy trailer vehicle from behind. The impact of the collision was so severe that three people died on the spot, while two injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

According to police officials, the deceased include an adult and two minor children. Authorities have not yet officially released the identities of all the victims as efforts are underway to inform relatives and complete legal formalities.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the motorcycle was dragged several metres after the collision, causing panic among commuters and local residents. Police teams reached the accident site shortly after receiving information and shifted the bodies for postmortem examination.

Officials said the injured individuals remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Rajsamand. The trailer truck involved in the accident has been seized, while efforts are underway to trace and detain the driver, who allegedly fled the scene after the crash.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and negligent driving may have led to the collision, though officials said the exact cause will be determined after a detailed probe.

The accident once again highlights the growing concern over fatal road crashes involving heavy vehicles on Rajasthan highways. According to recent transport department data, Rajasthan continues to report a high number of road fatalities, with overspeeding, reckless driving and poor traffic compliance remaining among the major causes of accidents across the state.

Several serious road accidents involving trucks and trailers have been reported from different districts in Rajasthan in recent months, prompting repeated appeals from authorities for stricter enforcement of road safety measures and speed regulations on highways.

Further investigation into Sunday’s collision is currently underway.
