Luke Shaw achieves full-season Premier League milestone as INEOS weigh left-back options for summer

Luke Shaw’s name on the starting sheet against Brighton and Hove Albion this afternoon means the defender has started every Premier League match of the current season.

The left-back’s inclusion from the outset against Brighton confirms that he has reached the 38/38 milestone — the first time in his professional career that he has played in every league fixture of a campaign.

Although this is a remarkable personal achievement for Shaw, who has often struggled with injuries throughout his time at Manchester United, questions remain about his long-term fitness and durability.

According to reports, INEOS are expected to pursue a new left-back during the upcoming transfer window. With Manchester United set to return to Champions League action next season, the club anticipates a heavier schedule and greater squad rotation demands.

United’s early exits from both domestic cup competitions this season have resulted in their fewest total matches in a single campaign since 1915. Therefore, squad depth across all positions will be a crucial focus when Michael Carrick oversees his first transfer window as manager.

The midfield is also expected to be a key area of attention, particularly following the absence of Casemiro. The Brazilian is not part of the squad to face the Seagulls after an agreement that last week’s victory over Nottingham Forest would be his final appearance for the club.

Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte appears set to depart just two years into his contract. The midfielder has once again been left out of Carrick’s matchday selection, with his most recent outing being the defeat to Leeds United on April 13.
