In today’s time, digital cameras and editing technology have made shooting easy. Now a scene can be shot multiple times and can be improved later through editing. But in this changing era, one thing is gradually decreasing, and that is the preparation of the artists.

Earlier, actors used to rehearse their roles several times. Acting used to be honed through theater and workshops, but now in many places one can see haste. Actor Jatin Sarna has openly expressed his opinion on this issue in a conversation with IANS.

Speaking to IANS, Jatin Sarna, who has gained recognition for his acting in projects like ‘Sacred Games’ and ‘Darbar’, said, “In today’s time, artists need to go back to rehearsals and preparation. Technology has definitely increased the facilities, but this should not reduce the hard work of the artists.”

When IANS asked him that in today’s fast shooting culture, things like rehearsals and workshops are decreasing and many artistes have become dependent on quick retakes and editing, to this Jatin said, “This is exactly what is happening. Today everything is recorded digitally, so people feel that if one take is not right then they will take another one, but no one can become a good actor just by relying on retakes and editing.”

Jatin said, “Having the facility of technology is a good thing, but it does not mean that the artistes should stop working hard. Acting is not just about standing in front of the camera and speaking dialogues. To play a character well, one has to understand his thinking, emotions and behavior, and all this is not possible without preparation.”

Recalling the old times, he said, “Earlier, films did not have so many resources. Cameras were limited and it was not easy to get retakes. The actors and the entire team worked with great dedication. People used to rehearse for hours so that each and every scene could come out correctly in front of the camera. Due to the same hard work and discipline, many films of the old times are still alive in the hearts of people.”

Talking about today’s environment, Jatin said, “Now everyone seems to be in a hurry. I have also seen such actors who start asking for pack-up time even before the shooting starts. This thinking somehow weakens the passion towards work. If an actor works just to complete the time, then his acting will not be able to have the depth that impresses the audience.”

Talking about his thinking, Jatin said, “For me, cinema is not just a profession but love. I live cinema. I try to make every project come out in its best form. This is possible only when the entire team works with honesty and complete preparation. A good actor is the one who plays every character with full hard work and sincerity.”
