Lucknow: Facing rising complaints of power cuts during the ongoing heatwave, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hold a high-level review meeting with electricity department officials via video conferencing on Sunday morning.
The meeting is expected to assess the state’s power supply situation and review measures to improve availability and address growing consumer grievances.
Following directions from the Chief Minister, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has instructed officials to ensure 18 hours of electricity supply in rural areas and 24-hour uninterrupted power supply in urban centres.
A review meeting chaired by the UPPCL chairman also directed field officers to stay alert amid peak summer demand and conduct inspection drives in areas experiencing sudden spikes in electricity load, particularly during night hours.
Authorities have been asked to resolve complaints received on the 1912 helpline on priority, while senior officials will continue monitoring the grid situation late into the night to maintain stable supply.
In an operational adjustment, employees of Madhyanchal Power Management on field duty have been temporarily exempted from biometric attendance, allowing them to mark attendance at any time within a 24-hour window to ensure uninterrupted field operations.
The state has seen growing public discontent over prolonged outages in several districts. In Sitapur’s Sandana area, farmers staged protests demanding adherence to scheduled supply, warning of intensified agitation if conditions do not improve.
Political pressure has also mounted, with BJP MLA Nirmal Verma writing to Energy Minister AK Sharma over worsening conditions in Sitapur. Opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, have criticized the government, citing inadequate planning and rising demand during peak summer temperatures.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also attacked the administration on social media, alleging failures in expanding generation capacity and ensuring reliable supply across the state.
