Real Madrid’s ‘Galactico’ Kylian Mbappe has accomplished a milestone that only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have managed in the past 38 years of La Liga history.

The French striker secured his second consecutive Pichichi Trophy after scoring in Real Madrid’s final-day 4-2 triumph over Athletic Club. With this achievement, Mbappe joins an elite group of footballers who have consistently dominated Spain’s top flight.

Mbappe clinches another Pichichi title

Mbappe officially sealed the 2025-26 Pichichi Trophy following his goal in Real Madrid’s 4-2 victory against Athletic Club on the last day of the season. That strike brought his league tally to 25 goals for the campaign. He finished ahead of Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi, who netted 23 times, while Osasuna’s Ante Budimir secured third place with 17 goals. Barcelona’s Ferran Torres and youngster Lamine Yamal both finished with 16 goals each. The Los Blancos forward also topped the league in total shots with 63, highlighting his relentless attacking presence. Muriqi registered 50 attempts, and Real team-mate Vinicius Jr followed with 46.

Mbappe joins the legends of La Liga

By retaining the Pichichi crown, Mbappe has joined a select list of football legends in Spanish football. After capturing the award last season with 31 goals, the Frenchman defended the honour with another prolific performance. This feat makes him the first Real Madrid player since Ronaldo, who won it in 2014 and 2015, to claim consecutive Pichichi titles. Over the past 38 years, only a few players, including Messi, have managed to achieve this remarkable consistency.

Farewell moments amidst a tough season

Real Madrid’s final fixture of the season at the Santiago Bernabeu was also marked by emotional farewells. Dani Carvajal received a warm standing ovation during his last appearance for the club, while David Alaba also bid farewell after his stint in Madrid.

Despite Mbappe’s individual brilliance, Madrid endured a challenging season by their high standards, failing to capture any major title. However, the French captain’s back-to-back Pichichi triumphs reaffirm his stature as one of the world’s finest forwards and a cornerstone of Los Blancos’ future ambitions.

The Mourinho chapter set to begin

Attention now turns to the upcoming chapter at the Santiago Bernabeu, as Jose Mourinho is expected to return to take charge of Real Madrid. The Portuguese tactician will be tasked with rebuilding a side capable of competing for top honours once more. One of his main challenges will be finding the perfect balance between Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, as the team struggled to find cohesion despite their attacking firepower. Having already established his dominance in La Liga, Mbappe will now aim to turn his personal success into collective glory in the seasons ahead.
