Harry Kane has chosen not to rush into signing a new contract with Bayern Munich, even after a remarkable season that saw him hit an incredible 61 goals. The England captain has just completed a record-setting year in Germany, but supporters may have to wait until after the World Cup for any concrete news about his long-term plans.
Contract discussions on pause
Kane has confirmed that he is not yet ready to begin formal talks with Bayern over an extension. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker wrapped up his domestic campaign by lifting the DFB-Pokal trophy in Berlin, but he has decided to postpone any contractual negotiations until after representing England at the upcoming World Cup.
Although Bayern fans are eager to see the 32-year-old pledge his future to the club, Kane appears relaxed about the situation. With the club season now over, his attention has turned completely to international duty and the quest for a major title with England, before revisiting discussions with the Bavarian club later on.
Harry Kane’s comments on his plans
Speaking to Sky Sport DE following Bayern’s cup final win over Stuttgart, Kane addressed the rumours about his contract. He explained that talks are planned but will not happen immediately.
The England skipper said: “It’s not the time to talk about that now, but there’s no panic. We wanted to hold conversations until the end of the season and we’ve got a World Cup still to play. But everyone knows how much I enjoy it here. That situation is calm.” His remarks underline that while discussions are on the agenda, his current priority is the World Cup.
Uli Hoeness dismisses Barcelona speculation
Kane’s outstanding form has inevitably attracted attention from Europe’s top clubs, with reports linking him to Barcelona as a possible successor to Robert Lewandowski. However, Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has swiftly dismissed any suggestion that their star striker could be sold this summer.
Hoeness gave his typically forthright response, insisting that Barcelona lack the financial means to carry out such a major deal. He reiterated that Bayern have no interest in parting ways with a player he called the best signing in the club’s history, especially after a season in which Kane scored 61 goals in 51 appearances.
Questions remain about a possible Premier League return
Although Kane seems settled in Germany, the record for all-time Premier League goals still lingers in the background. Having left Tottenham Hotspur with 213 league goals, he remains within striking distance of Alan Shearer’s iconic 260-goal benchmark — leading some to think he could return to England before the end of his career.
Kane has previously acknowledged that his views on a Premier League comeback have softened since moving to the Bundesliga. While he hasn’t closed the door on returning home, he has reiterated his current commitment to Bayern Munich: “I am fully all in with Bayern. If there was a conversation about extending then we will see, but I have still got this season and another season. It is not like I am in my last year, it is not like there is any panic.”
