To ensure accurate toll collection at toll plazas according to vehicle type, FASTags are divided into seven classes and colors
Class 4 (Purple Tag): For small vehicles like Cars, Zebra, Vela and Tata S.
Class 5 (Orange Tag): For Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs).
Class 6 (Yellow Tag): For 3-axle commercial vehicles, buses and trucks.
Class 7 (Green Tag): For 2-axle buses and trucks.
Class 12: It is for larger vehicles with 4 to 6 axles.
Class 15: This is for vehicles with 7 or more axles.
Class 16: It is used for heavy construction machinery (HCM) and earthmoving equipment.

What is the next category?
There are three types of FASTag depending on who manages your FASTag account
Bank issued FASTag
It is directly linked to your savings account. It can be availed from banks like SBI, ICICI, HDFC and Axis.
Wallet-based FASTag: It is like a separate prepaid wallet, in which you can deposit money as needed, like Airtel Payments Bank.
NHAI/IHMCL FASTag: This can be purchased instantly from toll plazas or authorized agency centers. It can then be linked to any bank account at your convenience.
Usage and category
Vehicles are classified into four categories based on their usage:
Private Vehicles: It is for cars and SUVs for personal or household use.
Commercial Vehicles: It is used for trucks, buses and logistics vehicles.
Government and Concessionary Vehicles: This tag is given to specially authorized emergency or toll-free vehicles.
Rental/Fleet Vehicles: This tag is specifically for car rental companies, allowing them to track and manage all their vehicle expenses from one place.

You can easily buy or recharge your FASTag using any authorized bank or digital payment app. To know the exact rate or to purchase a new tag, you can contact your bank’s FASTag platform or NHAI FASTag portal.
