Iran-America Deal: US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that the US and Iran are close to agreeing on a major agreement to reduce tension in the Gulf region. Trump said that under the proposed agreement, the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil trade routes, will also be reopened.

Posting on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said negotiations on the agreement have been “substantially completed” and now only the final formalities remain. “An agreement between the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and other relevant countries is almost finalized. Now only final approval and some details remain,” he wrote.

What did Donald Trump say on Iran deal?

Trump said that an important part of this agreement will be the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. In recent months, this sea route has become a major center of regional tension. He said, “The final aspects and details of the agreement are currently under discussion and will be announced soon. Along with many other parts of this agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will also be opened.”

Which leaders did you talk to?

Trump told that he talked to the leaders of many countries from the Oval Office. These included Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Did Netanyahu agree?

According to Trump, the main topic of these talks focused on Iran and a “comprehensive peace agreement”. He also said that he also spoke separately to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was “very good”.

What is the problem in the deal?

However, Iranian media rejected Trump’s claim that the Strait of Hormuz would be completely opened under the proposed agreement. Iran said that control over this sea route will remain with Tehran. Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars News Agency described Trump’s statement as “far from reality.” The agency said that under the terms being discussed in the talks, the management of the Strait of Hormuz will remain under the control of Iran.

According to the report, even if an agreement is reached, Iran will still have the right to control the routes of ships, timing of movement, process of movement and issuing permits. “The management of the Strait of Hormuz, including navigation, timing, and issuance of permits, remains under the sole control of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the report said.

What was Pakistan’s role in the agreement?

Iran said on Saturday that it is working towards a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US to end the conflict. This statement came after high-level talks held in Tehran in the presence of Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir.

Pakistan Army described these talks as “encouraging”. At the same time, two Pakistani sources involved in the talks told Reuters that the proposed agreement is “broad enough to end the war”.

In how many phases will the agreement be implemented?

According to Reuters report, the proposed framework can be implemented in three phases. In the first phase the conflict will be formally ended. In the second phase, the Strait of Hormuz crisis will be resolved and in the third phase, 30-day talks will begin for a comprehensive agreement, which can also be extended further.

What are America’s conditions?

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is currently on a visit to India, also reiterated America’s conditions for ending the conflict. Rubio said, “Iran can never have nuclear weapons. The sea lanes must be open without any duty and Iran must hand over its enriched uranium.”

While talking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday, Rubio had said that talks are going on and a big update may come in the coming days. He said, “Even as I am talking to you, talks are going on. It is possible that we may have something to say late tonight, tomorrow or in the next few days.”

Trump has earlier warned that if an agreement is not reached, it could have “dire consequences”. He said that “the entire civilization could end” and later warned Iran that “time is running out.”
