Sharma, through his unique protest, has been urging the authorities to take action to clean the river and prevent further pollution. He reached the municipal office on Friday and started singing and dancing. He said he was compelled to dress as a cockroach to open the eyes of “incompetent” officials towards Yamuna and the rampant filth in the city.
What Sharma said about the unique protest“We, the residents of Braj, perform the ‘aachaman’ ritual of sipping water from the Yamuna. Yet, despite years of promises to rid the river of pollution, nothing has been done. Be it Mathura or Vrindavan, polluted water and sewage from filthy drains can be seen flowing openly into the river. Yet, the officials remain indifferent, turning a blind eye to the situation,” Sharma was quoted as saying by a News18 report.
The cockroach protest comes following the launch of he Cockroach Janta Party by political communication strategist Abhijeet Dipke. The party has been marred in controversy ever since.
