Manchester United concluded their Premier League campaign in style on 25 May 2026, delivering a commanding 3-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion to secure a third-place finish in the league standings.
The Red Devils found the net through Patrick Dorgu, Bryan Mbeumo, and Bruno Fernandes, ensuring a comfortable win at the end of the season.
The encounter carried additional significance as Fernandes’ corner, headed home by Dorgu, allowed the Portuguese midfielder to break the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season with 21.
Kobbie Mainoo continued his remarkable run of form, rounding off an impressive season during which he also earned a new contract earlier this month.
The young midfielder is notably the only Manchester United player selected for England’s World Cup squad, apart from Marcus Rashford, who spent the entire season on loan at FC Barcelona.
A graduate of Carrington, Mainoo has been consistently outstanding in possession, but what truly stands out this season is his significant improvement in off-the-ball contributions, particularly evident over the last ten matches.
In the clash against Brighton, Mainoo registered one key pass and completed 78% of his passes in central midfield.
He attempted two shots during the game, with one being blocked by the Seagulls’ defence, and successfully completed three out of five dribble attempts.
Mainoo also displayed exceptional defensive work, winning 100% of his tackles and prevailing in all his aerial duels.
In addition, he was highly active in the midfield battle, claiming eight ground duels and contributing defensively with one clearance and a crucial block that denied a goal-scoring chance.
Heading into the World Cup, Mainoo will carry immense confidence and has firmly established himself as a key figure for Manchester United going into the next season.
