Country. Large scale diplomatic efforts are going on behind the scenes to stop the ongoing tension and war in West Asia. According to The New York Times report, the world’s largest superpower United States and its old rival Iran seem to be getting very close to a possible agreement. However, no official draft or written agreement has emerged so far, due to which the situation remains even more mysterious.
According to sources, there is a huge contradiction in the statements of the officials of both the countries – America is making a different claim, while a different stand is coming from Iran’s side. In such a situation, it is not clear what level the talks have reached.
1. Nuclear program is the biggest controversy-
The most important issue is Iran’s nuclear program. The US says Iran must completely destroy its highly enriched uranium stockpile because it is considered a threat to make nuclear weapons. On the other hand, Iran is not ready to accept this condition.
According to data from the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has large quantities of enriched uranium. America’s stance is tough, while Iran is calling it a later issue for talks.
2. Tension on the Strait of Hormuz-
Conflict continues over the world’s most important oil route, the Strait of Hormuz. Global oil supply takes place through this route. According to reports, as tensions have increased, a dispute has arisen over security and control of ships passing through this route.
Iran wants America to reduce its military presence, while America is adamant on maintaining security.
3. Dispute over freezing property-
Iran’s assets worth billions of dollars are frozen abroad, which it wants back. But the US says the issue will depend on the terms of any agreement and no funds will be released yet.
4. Question on regional fighting groups-
Iran has been accused of supporting several groups in West Asia, including organizations such as Hezbollah. The US and its allies want the role of these groups to end in any agreement, although this issue has not yet been directly included in the talks.
5. Disagreement on missile program also-
Serious concerns are also being raised about Iran’s ballistic missile program. Both Israel and the US consider it a threat, but according to reports the issue has not been included in the current talks, which is likely to further escalate regional tensions.
What will become of the peace agreement?
Experts believe that if consensus is not reached on these five major issues, tension in West Asia may increase further. However, diplomatic efforts are ongoing and the situation may become clearer in the coming days.
