Major accident during bathing in Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, 31 people drowned in the river; Chaos due to death of 7

Badaun Ganga River Accident: A major accident took place during holy bath at different Ganga ghats on Jayeshtha Dussehra in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. While taking bath, 31 devotees drowned in deep water, out of which seven people died tragically. The bodies were recovered after a rescue operation that lasted several hours, while a girl is still missing. Six devotees were rescued safely. After the accidents at different ghats, there was panic in the administration and DM and SSP reached the spot and took stock of the relief and security arrangements.

The first incident took place at Kachla Ganga Ghat, about a kilometer away from the main bathing ghat. Omveer, resident of village Kanu of Sadabad police station area of ​​Hathras district, had come to take bath in the Ganga with his relative Netrapal resident of village Pichhauta. While bathing, Omveer’s 16-year-old son Nilesh and Netrapal’s 17-year-old daughter Shikha went into deep water. While trying to save them, Omveer, his elder son Sarvesh and relative Shyamveer’s wife Varsha also started drowning.

Body recovered after rescue operation

Divers present at the spot took out Omveer, Sarvesh and Varsha safely, while Nilesh and Shikha went missing in the water. After a long rescue operation, the police recovered Nilesh’s body, but till late evening no trace of Shikha could be found. Apart from this, 20 year old Rohit son of Nankesh, resident of Mudhsan in Hathras district and Rajkumar son of Bhagwan Das, resident of Sirsa Dabarai village of Badaun also died due to drowning in Ganga while bathing. Police recovered all three bodies, although the family refused to conduct post-mortem.

Karan of Etah district also died

Karan son of Ramprakash, resident of Jalesar in Etah district, Abhishek son of Raju, resident of Firozabad, Rajkumar son of Premshankar, Hrithik son of Bhagwan Singh, resident of Mudhsan of Hathras and Bantu son of Kunwarpal, resident of Nagariya of Kasganj were rescued safely in time. The second incident took place at Ataina Ghat in Ushait police station area, where 19-year-old Pintu, son of Santram, resident of Hussainpur village of Bhogaon police station area of ​​Mainpuri district, drowned while bathing in the Ganga.

Questions are being raised on security arrangements

Farrukhabad district 18 year old Anupam’s son Dharamveer, resident of village Nunaira of Kampil police station area, also drowned in deep water while bathing with his maternal uncle. Police recovered the bodies of both the youths and sent them for post-mortem. After the death of seven devotees in a single day, questions started being raised on the security arrangements of the administration. After the accident, DM Avnish Rai and SSP Ankita Sharma reached Kachla Ganga Ghat and took stock of the rescue operation and security arrangements.
