As soon as Nautapa begins, the heat reaches its full strength. Strong sunlight, hot winds, and continuously rising temperatures tire the body very quickly. We sweat so much that the body loses water and we start feeling tired. In such weather, people want to stay away from heavy and hot food and drinks. Instead they prefer light, cooling and refreshing things which can keep the body cool and hydrated from inside. If you also want to drink something healthy, tasty and cool this summer, then definitely try this special drink with Gond Katira, watermelon and chia seeds. This drink is not only slightly sweet in taste and very fresh, but it is also very easy to make at home. Instead of expensive and artificial juices from the market, this homemade drink will give both natural coolness and energy to your family.
Why is this drink special?
Gond Katira (Tragacanth Gum) is given great importance among the things that provide coolness to the body in summer. It naturally reduces the heat inside the body and also keeps the stomach cool. Watermelon is the king of summer. It contains very high amount of water (about 90-92%) which helps in keeping the body well hydrated. Besides, it also contains nutrients like Vitamin A, C and Lycopene which are helpful in removing fatigue and weakness caused by heat.
Chia seeds make this drink more nutritious. These seeds swell when soaked in water and are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein. These make the drink light, filling and refreshing for a long time. Adding mint leaves and honey or sugar candy to this drink enhances its taste and is liked by everyone from children to adults. Drinking this drink on the hottest days like Nautapa makes the body feel refreshed and the effect of heat is reduced.
Ingredients (for 2-3 glasses):
2 cups watermelon pieces (seeds removed)
1 tablespoon gond katira
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tsp honey or sugar candy (as per taste)
some fresh mint leaves
Ice cubes (as needed)
How to make this cool and delicious drink?
- First of all, soak Gond Katira in a bowl by adding water. Keep it soaked for at least 30-45 minutes so that it swells properly.
- Similarly, soak chia seeds in a separate bowl in some water for 10-15 minutes. These will swell nicely too
- Now put the watermelon pieces in a mixer jar and grind them well. If the watermelon is very sweet, there will be no need for additional sugar or honey.
- Take out the powdered watermelon juice in a big glass or jug. Add swollen gum katira and chia seeds to it.
- Add one teaspoon honey or sugar candy as per taste and mix well.
- Finally add ice cubes, garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve chilled immediately.
Tip: If you want to make it thinner or thicker, you can increase or decrease the quantity of water or watermelon. You can also add some cardamom powder instead of mint, the taste will be better.
