Former Arsenal manager and Premier League-winning coach Arsene Wenger continues to show faith in Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal squad, expressing belief that the Gunners have what it takes to finish the job this season.
After 22 years without a Premier League title, Arsenal appeared to be closing in on glory, but recent setbacks have raised questions over their ability to maintain their title charge.
Wenger, who remains a revered figure among Arsenal supporters, has given what many see as a timely morale boost to the red half of North London as the title race reaches its decisive stages.
In the aftermath of last weekend’s high-stakes encounter between Arsenal and Manchester City, the legendary Frenchman offered a perspective that challenges the widespread belief in City’s unstoppable momentum.
Wenger’s stature within the club endures even after his departure in 2018. His historic ‘Invincibles’ team of 2003–04 remains the last Arsenal side to lift the Premier League trophy, and his insights into the current campaign carry significant authority, given his decades of success in English football.
Speaking at a Twinning Project event shortly after Manchester City’s 2-1 victory, Wenger expressed unwavering optimism about Arsenal’s chances. “I believe that Arsenal will win the league. I deeply believe. It looks, to me, like common sense,” he said.
He added, “I like Eze, Odegaard, Havertz and Madueke attacking. Manchester City will not make the perfect run-in.”
Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, could move ahead of Arsenal in the standings if they secure a win by two or more goals against Burnley on Wednesday night, leaving five league matches remaining for each side.
City’s remaining fixtures include home games against Brentford, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, along with away trips to Everton and Bournemouth.
Arsenal’s upcoming schedule sees them host Newcastle United, Fulham and Burnley, while also travelling to West Ham United and Crystal Palace. However, their pursuit of domestic glory is complicated by a two-legged Champions League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid, which will further test the depth and resilience of Arteta’s squad.
