VinFast Vs Tesla: The world’s famous electric car company Tesla has suffered a major setback in India. Everyone can see that Elon Musk’s company is busy strengthening its hold in the Indian market. But in this race, Vietnam’s EV company VinFast has created a stir as soon as it entered the Indian market. The surprising thing about this is that both the companies had entered India around the same time but VinFast is now almost 10 times ahead of Tesla in sales figures. Looking at this initiative, Express reports that till now Tesla has been able to sell only 383 electric vehicles in India but on the other hand, VinFast has sold 3,568 units.
VinFast won in the festive season
If we look at the figures of last year 2025, for the first time VinFast had left Tesla behind in the festive season. Whereas during September and October, VinFast sold a total of 137 cars and at that time Tesla was able to sell only 109 cars. In the report released by FADA, it was said that the pace of VinFast had increased from October 2025. Whereas Tesla sold only 69 vehicles in September and 40 vehicles in October. VinFast, on the other hand, started with just 6 cars in September but by October this figure had reached 131.
Local manufacturing becomes the biggest strength
According to the information, it is being said that the biggest reason behind the success of VinFast in India is its local manufacturing. It has been seen that from the beginning, the company focused on setting up a plant in India and also established its manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu and with this step, the company got relief from heavy import duty and was successful in launching its cars at a lower price. Let us tell you that the price of VinFast’s VF6 has been kept at Rs 17.29 lakh, VF7 at Rs 21.89 lakh and VF MPV 7 at Rs 24.49 lakh.
Finally, let us tell you that Tesla adopted the import model and launched its popular Model Y at a price of around Rs 60 lakh, which is proving to be very expensive for Indian customers.
Success will not be achieved by brand name alone
In today’s time, it is seen that India’s EV market is growing rapidly but here customers give more importance to value for money. The Rs 15 to 30 lakh segment is the most popular in the current market and VinFast has targeted this market. In such a situation, tech experts believe that in a country like India, strong charging network and affordable prices have become very important. In such a situation, at present Tesla has only 5 superchargers in India, which is considered to be its biggest weakness.
